Equity and COVID-19 Recovery Fund

Call for Proposals

Call for Proposals Process is Now Open

Across the globe and locally, COVID-19 has had a dramatic impact on our lives and well-being. The pandemic has further exacerbated significant needs in our community and has deepened issues of equity and disparity for many. The charitable sector has been at the forefront – and in many instances – on the front line as an essential service – providing support and vital services to those in need. At the same time, the restrictions and uncertainty of the pandemic, along with its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities, are also placing higher demands on the sector. The stability of the sector is facing challenges, and organizations are grappling with uncertainties. An adaptive approach to how programs and services are provided became necessary to continue to respond effectively to the complexity of needs communities are facing.

Towards creating a healthier and more equitable community, United Way Winnipeg, with the tremendous support of generous donors, has established the Equity and COVID-19 Recovery Fund. This call for proposals is open to nonprofit and charitable organizations in Winnipeg. It will provide funding for recovery initiatives in the community and support for marginalized and vulnerable populations that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.

Available Funding

Two streams of funding are available. Agencies are able to apply for one or both funding streams.

One-time Grants for Immediate Needs – $600,000 available over 1 year

  • Grants of up to $25,000 for one-year projects

Multi-year Grants for Organizational and/or Community Recovery – $2,325,000 available over three years, of which a minimum of $500,000 will be dedicated to Indigenous-led organizations.

  • Grants of up to $225,000 for up to a three-year period (i.e., up to $75,000 per year)

This funding is possible thanks to the generosity of United Way Winnipeg donors.

The Equity and COVID-19 Recovery Fund will prioritize investment in agencies that address one or more of the following priorities:

  • The pandemic has highlighted and further increased disparity and inequity in our community, and has negatively impacted individuals within marginalized and vulnerable communities.
  • Services focused on counselling, addiction and wellness services, and agencies serving individuals who are homeless and/or are precariously housed.
  • Services that reduce stress in families, with supports for basic needs, parenting, respite, and youth activities.
  • Services that assist people with job readiness and skills training, help people manage their finances, file their taxes, access eligible supports, and learn money management skills.
  • Supporting organizational renewal and ensuring ongoing service delivery and recovery work to address gaps and stabilize organizations. This may include building more resilient organizations through modernizing systems (i.e., digital capacity, governance and human resources models, effective operational practices to prepare for future major and unprecedented challenges) and/or redesigning and adapting service delivery models to ensure vital programs and services continue to address community needs (i.e., adjusting services to comply with public health protocols and/or based on new and emerging needs).

Deadline: Monday, July 12, at 5:00 p.m.
