Summit Series 4: Inclusion in our City

Listening to experiences of pain and experiences of change

Talking about inclusion is uncomfortable. Facing the past is hard. Changing the future is complex. But it’s all necessary in order for Winnipeg to continue to reach its full potential as one great city.

In Part 4 of our United Way Winnipeg Summit Series, we dive into the topic of inclusion in our community with an honest and meaningful conversation about misconceptions, misunderstandings, and mistakes – and an inspired goal to move forward together.

With an open heart and an open mind, we will discuss how unconscious bias affects the way we treat people and what we can do to lead by example and build a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

We’ll hear the story of one man whose young son didn’t want to be Muslim anymore because he didn’t see himself reflected in the palette of a popular children’s cartoon. We’ll learn about one Winnipegger’s perspective on why she connects to the Black Lives Matter movement in a deeply personal way. We’ll explore how businesses throughout our city are adapting their practices to be more inclusive to Indigenous youth.

Finally, we’ll be uplifted by the eye-opening transformations of youth in a donor-supported program who are breaking barriers and building bridges with knowledge, understanding, and compassion.

This last Summit Series episode is not to be missed!

Natalie Bell of the popular blog PegCityLovely returns to host this television-style episode, generously sponsored by Johnston Group. We are honoured to bring the diverse aspects of our community together for this enlightening discussion!
