Volunteering in Winnipeg makes a real difference—and you can help now!

Give your time, share your talent, and repurpose your treasure to help people in Winnipeg.

Want to volunteer in Winnipeg?

Our community needs you now more than ever. And because you love Winnipeg, you can tangibly help your neighbours who need your support by volunteering. Here are a number of great opportunities.

Host a collection drive

Unite your friends, family, neighbours or colleagues to gather essential items for people struggling to meet their basic needs. Register your drive, and we will send you promotional materials to help raise awareness and engage your team.

A United Way Winnipeg agency partner will ensure these items get safely into the homes of Winnipeggers who could use a helping hand.

Koats for Kids Drive

Keeping little Winnipeggers warm with Koats for Kids

September 28, 2022 to January 26, 2023

Every year, from September to January, Winnipeggers donate over 6,000 coats, and Koats for Kids shares this winter gear with Winnipeg families.

Join us!

With your support, we can make a difference in the lives of Winnipeggers and help ensure that no child is left in the cold.

How can you help?

Host a Koats for Kids drive!

Let your friends, family, and colleagues know that you’re collecting donations of new and gently used children’s winter outerwear and encourage them to pitch in. Winter coats, ski pants, hats, mitts, scarves and boots are needed in all kid sizes!

Tell us about your drive and we’ll send you an email with tips on organizing a successful drive and a poster to help promote it!

Once your drive has wrapped up, please check to make sure coats are clean, in good condition, and the zippers work. Please place all items in a plastic bag before bringing them to a Koats for Kids drop-off location.

Create kits from the comfort of home

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not have a clean pair of socks? Or to be able to afford a new toothbrush?

As small as they may seem, basic items like these make a world of difference for Winnipeggers living on a low income—especially those who have been hit hardest by the pandemic. To help meet the increasing needs in our community, we’ve created a variety of do-it-yourself kits that will give hope to families across Winnipeg.

You can help out your neighbours during this critical time by providing items that are in constant demand in our community. Below are a few examples of urgently-needed do-it-yourself kits that will give hope to families across Winnipeg.

Check out the DIY Kits: Volunteer from Home guide for creative, flexible and impactful ways to support fellow Winnipeggers from the comfort of your home or office. Take part in these activities on your own, or with your colleagues, friends, family or neighbours.

When your DIY Kits are ready to be delivered, contact engagement@marsworks.thedev.ca to be connected with a United Way agency partner in your community or bring them to:

United Way Winnipeg / 580 Main Street / 8:30am-4:30pm
Free parking is available in the parking lot behind our building.

We are currently closed to the public; please use the buzzer next to the door upon arrival.
